Peace & Humanity
On 2/20/2024, East Orange Campus High School Teacher Mrs. Jenielle Navarro and the National Honor Society coordinated a Peace and Humanity assembly to spread awareness and inspire more peace, tolerance, and humanity in the community. There was a special guest speaker, and the students presented information to create awareness about the various current world conflicts/ wars and the devastating effects it's had on the countries.
The EO Campus Open Mic Spoken Word Poets were honored to be invited, and we crafted together a performance of protest against the indignations and inhumanity of the world wars.
The Open Mic Spoken Word Poets simulated a protest,
marching into the auditorium with self created protest posters. The poets' posters featured artwork by political activists and renowned
"people's artists" Bansky and Shepard Fairey, along with expressions of an idea they wanted to emphasize. The goal was to appear as and perform a "poetic demonstration."
Check out the original poetry written and
performed by Tyquan Hardnett, Samyah Burt, and Neferteri Sellers.
The poets hope that their message of a call to action for an immediate cease fire in Gaza is realized, as well as the urgency to quell other foreign political warfares that are costing the lives of many innocent people and children so it comes to an end.
